Nursing Assistant Training
Course Description
This 120-hour (40 hours of Theory, 40 hours of Laboratory and 40 hours of Clinical hours) prepares individuals to work as caregivers and assist licensed nurses in various healthcare settings such as nursing homes, hospitals or home health care. This course teaches the fundamentals of the Nursing Assistant (Classroom, Laboratory and Clinical) using equipment that simulates real on-the-job situations. All subjects and lectures are taught along with practical hands-on as well as specific safety information related to the topics. The students will be prepared to pass the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) Competency Examination to become Certified Nurse Aides (CNA).
Course Objectives
The student will have entry-level skills and will be able to demonstrate the safe working procedures necessary to perform the entry-level duties of a Nursing Assistant. This course will also:
- Introduce the student to the health care field of Nursing assistants.
- Provide students with experiences in the classroom and in the clinical areas that result in the development of basic competencies required of Nursing Assistants.
- Provide the student with competencies that are prerequisites to specific areas and entry-level employment.
- Provide the student with the training required by state and Federal laws for entry-level employment as a Certified Nursing Assistant after successfully passing the State Competency and Certification Examination.
Admission Requirements and Procedures
Applicants residing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the past two (2) years will complete and submit a Pennsylvania State Police – Criminal History Record information report before the first day of class. An applicant residing in Pennsylvania for less than two years must obtain FBI clearance and CHRI report. An applicant’s CHRI report and FBI report must be in compliance. It cannot contain prohibitive offenses as cited in Pennsylvania ACT 14. A physical examination dated within one year is required. The physical medical examination must include documentation of a negative 2-step Mantoux Test that is dated within a year of starting class. If a PPD is documented as positive, a negative chest x-ray less than five (5) years old must be submitted. Positive references (three references is required).

- Total Hours: 120
- Class Schedule: Days and Evenings, Days Monday – Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm; Evenings Monday – Wednesday 5:00pm to 9:30pm
*Clinical hours depend on the availability of the slots at the participating hospitals and long-term care facilities, and could be morning, afternoon, evening hours, or on the weekends.
