Intravenous Therapy Certification
We offer Intravenous (IV) Therapy and Blood Draw to our students. If you are a licensed Practical Nurse and LPN/LVN, our I.V therapy and Venipuncture training will help you gain the knowledge and technical skills needed to safely set up, initiate, maintain and discontinue I.V therapies and blood withdrawal in a clinical setting.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course work consists of both lecture hours and hands-on laboratory.
Lecture topics include:
- Psychological preparation of the patient.
- Universal precautions for infection control.
- Indications and clinical implications for intravenous and blood withdrawal.
Clinical topics include:
- Preparation of intravenous equipment
- Administration of IV medication
- Blood withdrawal
- How to safely choose the correct vein
- Skin puncture
- infection control
In addition, each student must complete a minimun of three (3) individually supervised successful venipunctures in the laboratory and passed the final examination in other to receive a certificate of completion.
Course Outcomes
The intravenous therapy and venipuncture training is graded on a pass/fail basis. Graduates of this program are awarded a certificate of completion from Dotlen Academy of Science. The school is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing as a provider of I.V Therapy training.
Note: This is a non-credit-bearing course. Students must not assume that this course will be accepted for transfer credit at another institution. This course does not qualify for the Title IV federal financial aid funds. The institution does not offer job placement assistance for any of its courses; finding a job is the sole responsibility of each student.
